Nigeria: Gunmen stormed a mosque in Nigeria, killing twelve people, including an imam, and abducting several others, local residents said, Reuters reported.

Gunmen have attacked a mosque in northwest Nigeria after storming it. Police said on Sunday that 19 people were abducted during prayers.

Attackers stormed into a mosque in Maigamji village in Katsina state during prayers and killed several people, including the imam, and abducted others.

Lawal Haruna, a resident of Fantua in Katsina, President Muhammadu Buhari's home state, told Reuters on the phone about the incident.

Gunmen arrived at Maigamji Masjid on motorbikes and started firing. Around 12 people attending night prayers were hit by gunfire and killed, including the chief imam, Haruna said.

Haruna narrated the incident that they later kidnapped many people and took them away.
